Fake News is built with the very flexible content management framework MODX Revolution. It was also chosen for its speed. To get extra performance on a simple VPS we use Nginx web server and do lots of php offloading by using the MODX extra StatCache. Further speed improvements are made by watching the precached pages with inotify to zip them. Those files are kept on an in-memory partition. Javascript and CSS are concatenated and minified with cssSweet. To get user specific look on the cached pages, small pieces of information are sent with cookies, and then merged into the DOM with javascript.

Bootstrap4 extended with Bootstrap4 multi dropdown navbar and bootstrap-select is used for making a highly responsive layout. Images are resized to fit their different sizes by pThumb. pThumb also outputs their new dimensions.
